Docker Essentials ​

This course teaches the Docker skills most often used in daily work: running containers, building an image for your own app, storing data, connecting services, and running multiple services with Docker Compose.

It does not cover every Docker feature. It focuses on the essentials that give you the most practical value.

Prerequisites ​

  • You are comfortable running simple commands in a terminal.
  • Docker Desktop or Docker Engine is installed and running.

Course outline ​

  1. Introduction to Docker: the basic concepts and common use cases
  2. Image, container, and registry: the mental model and how they work together
  3. Working with containers: run, list, logs, exec, stop, start, and remove
  4. Working with images: pull, tag, and layers
  5. Building your own Docker image: building an image with a Dockerfile
  6. Docker Volume: bind mounts and named volumes
  7. Docker Network: communication between containers through a network
  8. Environment Variable: container configuration
  9. Docker Compose: running several services together
